NHS Meeting Policy
Purpose: The purpose of this meeting is to ensure that all candidates and members take an active and responsible position within the National Honor Society. The NHS Faculty Council feels that the number of meetings is kept to a minimum and students need to make these meetings a priority in order to remain in good standing.
- The following are the traditional mandatory meetings for NHS
- August meeting- orientation and explanation of NHS for new candidates- juniors and new seniors only (held the day before Interest Surveys or Senior Updates are due)
- September meeting- review of NHS paperwork and expectations along with discussion of upcoming project (held the day before Agency Contracts are due)
- November meeting- discussion of the NHS holiday project (usually right before Thanksgiving)
- March meeting- discussion of end of the year plans and finalize all hours (held on the day before Hours Logs are due)
- May meeting- hand out paperwork for upcoming year and discussion of senior NHS- junior candidates only
- Additional meetings may be called at the discretion of the teachers
- This does not include meetings for specific committees
- All candidates and members are required to attend ALL NHS mandatory meetings. Meetings are only called in order to disseminate paperwork, check deadlines, or to inform members of NHS activities.
- All meetings will take place on Thursdays at 8:00AM in B113 unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be announced in the Daily Bulletin. It is the responsibility of the candidate to check the Bulletin to find out meeting dates. The Bulletin is also available at bths.201.org/west.
- If a candidate will not be on campus the day of the meeting, he or she needs to meet with the appropriate adviser prior to the meeting to make alternate arrangements.
- Candidates are to arrive promptly for meetings. Anyone arriving after 8:00AM will not be allowed to attend the meeting. This is disruptive and results in mixed information being given to members.
- Roll will be taken for each meeting. It is the responsibility of each member to check with the officers in charge of attendance to make sure that their name has been noted on the roll.
- Members who miss a meeting or are locked out of a meeting because of tardiness need to see their adviser that day to explain their lateness. Failure to meet with an adviser counts as an unexcused meeting and will be reported to the Faculty Council for review. Barring extenuating circumstances, the student will likely be denied candidacy for NHS.
- Students who are absent the day of the meeting need to see their adviser the day they return to school.
- Make-up meetings will be held within three school days of the original meeting. All candidates not attending the original meeting must attend the make-up meeting. The time and date of these meetings will be given out only after students meet with an adviser. Failure to attend a make-up meeting will result in a report to the Faculty Council. Barring extenuating circumstances, the student will likely be denied candidacy for NHS.
