National Honor Society

2007 Belleville West National Honor Society
The NHS was founded to recognize the ideas of scholarship, leadership, character and service. It differs from an honor roll system in that an honor roll system is based solely on GPA, whereas NHS candidates must demonstrate service, character and leadership. Membership in NHS is both an honor and a commitment.
Eligibility Requirements:
Students with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA at the end of sophomore and junior year may submit an application for a faculty committee review. If approved, the NHS applicant has the responsibility to demonstrate scholarship, leadership, character and service.
Time Commitment:
Minimum 50 hours community service. Attendance at NHS meetings is required.
Procedure for Joining:
Submit application for faculty committee review.
Activity Time Period:
Year round. Service hours may be met during the summer.

Important Dates for NHS Candidates
2007-2008
May 17, 2007 - MANDATORY MEETING at 8 a.m. in B113
August 23, 2007 - MANDATORY MEETING at 8 a.m. in B113 for all Junior candidates and new Senior candidates ONLY. Returning seniors do NOT have to attend.
August 24, 2007 - NHS Interest Surveys (for new candidates) or Senior Updates (for continuing candidates) AND dues must be in to your advisor by close of school **Make sure that these are signed by your parent or guardian
September 7, 2007 - Outside Agency Contracts are due (only if you are using an outside agency) to your adviser by 3:30 p.m.
September 20, 2007 - MANDATORY MEETING at 8 a.m. in B113.
September 21, 2007 - Agency Contracts are due by close of school to your appropriate adviser
September 29, 2007 - Fall Unity Project: Belleville Area Humane Society Poochfest
November 29, 2007 - MANDATORY MEETING at 8 a.m. in B113
February 28, 2008 - MANDATORY MEETING at 8 a.m. in B113
April 4, 2008 - Spring Unity Project: Campus Blood Drive
May 4, 2008 - NHS banquet and induction at Our Lady of the Snows. Date is tentative depending on the availability of the banquet location. All candidates, members, and their families should plan on atttending.
